The Victorian Government has appointed a new board director to the Game Management Authority (GMA), bringing new skills and experience to Victoria’s independent game hunting regulator.

Dr Amanda Errington is joining the GMA Board for a term of three years.

Dr Errington brings significant animal welfare expertise as a veterinarian for over 30 years, with a special interest in animal welfare and ethics.

As a career veterinarian and through her previous role with Animal Welfare Victoria, Dr Errington has a strong background in best practice animal welfare, regulation, policy design, and assurance systems, which will strengthen the GMA Board’s capacity in these areas.

Dr Errington is experienced in developing integrated systems to identify and manage risks to animal welfare and ensuring that all actions are aligned with the organisation’s environmental, social, and governance goals.

Dr Errington has also sat on several animal ethics committees, which are responsible under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for oversight of an organisation's care and use of animals for scientific and research purposes.

GMA Chairperson, Brian Hine, welcomes the new appointment.

“Dr Errington will bring a new perspective and increased diversity to the GMA Board, which will ensure ongoing, balanced and evidence-based decision making.

Dr Errington’s expertise in animal welfare will complement and effectively contribute to the functions and culture of the GMA Board and strengthen the Board’s capability into the future. Animal welfare expertise on our board is critical to effective game hunting regulation.” Mr Hine says.

This new appointment ensures that the GMA Board continues to comprise of animal welfare knowledge and expertise and brings the GMA Board membership to eight Directors. The GMA Board reflects diversity with gender equality and Traditional Owner and regional Victorian representation.

The GMA works with the community as an independent regulator overseeing game hunting in Victoria through education, research, and enforcement to ensure game hunting is conducted in a responsible and sustainable way.
